SUMMARY:
this is where i put all the half-baked story ideas i don't want to work on no more. don't take these guys too seriously unless i tell you to
set in the city of "Nowhere" - a city saturated with magical energy, each story follows a set of residents of Nowhere. most of them overlap with eachother. the city itself is located on an (artificial) floating archipelago, put in place thousands of years ago by wizards of the time in attempt to align it with the myriad of "leylines" in the area. (leylines are a term from ancient magic theory - think alchemy vs. chemistry.)
those wizards - the founders of the city - were devotees of the three sacred dragons, so that remains the prominent religion. representing space, time and life, the three brothers (referred to traditionally with masculine terms, but the gender of these dragons has been the cause of at least one religious schism) existed before all things. this was so for thousands and thousands of years until the elder siblings - representing space and time - decided they wanted to move from their plane of existence, sublimating themselves into the very fabric of the universe.
their youngest was terrified, but could not convince them otherwise, and so they did. the only dragon left - life - wept and cried out for his brothers, who could not respond, for they had become one with all. he wandered his brothers' creation inconsolable, and was met with beauty unimaginable to someone living in darkness - he watched stars form and vanish, the birth of a galaxy, rocks clash and shatter soundlessly in the vaccuum of this new world - and from witnessing this, decided to join his brothers, to see what he could create. and so humans were born. i'll explain what a dragon saint is in another page because this is already getting long.
outside of a few select places, this religion is no longer widely practiced, but given that the first scholars who made an attempt at harnessing magic were devout followers it still influences how the whole world thinks of magic and classifies it. everything is considered an iteration on the basics of time, space and life. i don't have name for these creatures yet so don't ask me.
all this history to say - it's a pretty normal city. the concentration of magic and relics of ancient religion make it a tourist hot-spot. people come here to study magic a lot. they have a couple malls.
